Course Placement Testing
What is the Accuplacer?
The Accuplacer is a computer-based assessment tool used to place you in the appropriate level of courses in subject areas like reading, writing, and math. It is a multiple-choice, untimed test – which means you can take it at your own pace. Each section (reading, writing, math) takes about 30-45 minutes. Your answer to each question determines the difficulty level of the next. Therefore, you'll need to answer each question in the order they are presented. The result of the Accuplacer assessment is not pass/fail but rather a placement system based on the answers you provided.
Do I need to take a placement exam (Accuplacer or ACT)?
If your high school GPA does not meet program requirements, you will need to submit placement testing in Accuplacer or ACT.
- If you have taken the Accuplacer or ACT in the past, please send scores to transcripts@nwtc.edu.
- If you have never taken the Accuplacer of ACT, please practice for and take the Accuplacer before registering for classes.
