Nearly 250 students in the English Language Learner (ELL) program at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College will be honored in a graduation ceremony at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, in the NWTC Student Center Cafeteria, on the Green Bay campus.
ELL students representing several countries – including Mexico, Laos, Somalia, Lithuania, Russia, Honduras, Ukraine, Thailand, China, Puerto Rico, Estonia, Philippines, Portugal, Peru, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Columbia, South Korea, and Taiwan – will be participating in the ceremony.
Angie Aguilar of Green Bay will give the keynote address. She is a 2007 graduate of the ELL program who went on to acquire her Certified Nursing Assistant license. Holding a 4.0 GPA, Aguilar is currently taking prerequisite courses toward the NWTC Nursing-Associate Degree program. She is set to begin NWTC Nursing core program coursework in August 2009.
Additional ceremony participants include Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, NWTC President Dr. H. Jeffrey Rafn, and NWTC General Studies Dean Al Hiles.
About the ELL Program
NWTC offers six skill levels of ELL classes, from beginning to advanced. Students are immersed in an all-English environment while learning grammar, vocabulary, reading/writing, listening/speaking, culture, civics, and computer skills.
