47-413-518 MARINE ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION ...participants will learn bonding and grounding methods, lighting system troubleshooting, perform system test memo req, motor power circuits hook ups, motors troubleshooting, motor controller circuits hook up and troubleshooting, control circuits hook up and troubleshooting as it pertains to the marine industry.

What will I learn?

  1. Determine correct bonding and grounding methods from standard method prints.
  2. Utilize grounding and bonding methods.
  3. Adhere to shipyard safety standards.
  4. Hook up test, and troubleshoot 432/433 systems per print.
  5. Plan system box layout.
  6. Verify cable size and conductor layout in system box.
  7. Test lighting to ensure circuit works as designed, e-lights, door switches.
  8. Select the system and state of test memo required.
  9. Refer to system print for all items involved.
  10. Demonstrate to inspector the steps in test memo.
  11. Organize the proper test equipment with proper calibration dates.
  12. Complete test memo and TIR with all proper signatures.
  13. Identify the different parts of a motor controller.
  14. Discuss single speed controller and two speed controller.
  15. Explain the differences of power side of controller to control side.
  16. Discuss the rotation of a motor and how to reverse rotation.
  17. Explain the label plate on the motor.
  18. Test motor for heat buildup and the reasons for.
  19. Compare motor controllers, Allen Bradley to DRS.
  20. Explain interlocks on motor controllers and why they are needed.
  21. Review a ladder diagram.
  22. Discuss the control transformer, control voltage, start/stop switches and local versus remote.
  23. Discuss start PB, hand-off-auto selector switch and interlocks.
  24. Complete a motor controller hook up.
  25. Discuss types of controllers used on a ship.
  26. Show electrical and mechanical aspects within a controller.
  27. Interpret a controller schematic.
  28. Diagnose the internal wiring of a controller.
  29. Incorporate different types of signaling devices.
  30. Practice hooking up signaling equipment.
  31. Interpret interfacing of equipment with computer controllers.
  32. Determine signal problems.
  33. Investigate how to correct improper hookups.
  34. Verify the equipment is operating correctly.
