31-457-337 METAL FABRICATION I (LAYOUT) ...provide the opportunity for the learner to develop the knowledge, skills, process, and understanding of basic line and angle construction, basic measuring techniques, basic squaring techniques, along with basic part layout for fabrication. (Prerequisite: Accepted into Welding program or Metal Fabrication technical diploma; Corequisite: 31-442-301, Material Cutting Applications)

What will I learn?

  1. Develop line construction and transfer angles with a compass and straight edge.
  2. Lay out parts based on blueprints using a combination square
  3. Utilize micrometers and dial calipers to measure parts based on a blueprint
  4. Perform measuring techniques using a steel rule and tape measure
  5. Demonstrate the layout of a structural shape joint.
  6. Determine the best method to layout a part
