Sheet Metal Apprenticeship
In the building industry, the Sheet Metal, Electrical, Steam Fitting and Plumbing trades are called the mechanical trades. Skilled Sheet Metal works, although they do not actually erect the structure, to add the structure’s functional parts and materials such as gutters, down spouts, chimney flashings, cornices and heating ducts, ventilating and air conditioning. They may cut and mold sheets of metal into components for installing heating, ventilation and air distribution systems, operate computerized fabrication machines such as plasma cutters, brakes, presses and forming rolls to cut, bend, block and form sheet metal and solve challenging problems with highly technical layouts, prints and specifications using math and critical thinking.
