In May, NWTC was one of 27 U.S. institutions designated as a 2021 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE) by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration. The CoE Program supports maritime workforce training, education, and recruitment and awards students credit for prior experience.
This designation allows NWTC to strengthen its ties to the maritime industry and expand its workforce training. Rep. Mike Gallagher commented that NWTC has “helped make our community a hub for high-quality, good-paying jobs in the maritime industry, and this designation is a testament to all they do to ensure our workforce has the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.” With over 6,000 jobs in marine manufacturing, NWTC’s region continues to be a hub for maritime workers across the Great Lakes and offers many opportunities for workforce training.
