NWTC is proud to announce Iana Tikhoniuk as the College’s 2024 District Student Ambassador.
This honor is part of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) District Ambassador program. This program selects one outstanding student from each of the state's 16 technical college districts to serve as ambassadors for their institution. Ambassadors play a vital role in promoting their respective colleges and the WTCS by making special appearances, giving presentations, and participating in various events throughout their one-year term.
“I sincerely thank everyone who has supported my personal and professional growth,” said Iana. “I am honored for this opportunity to represent our college community, and to contribute innovative ideas across student organizations and partnerships. I strongly believe in NWTC's role in shaping our collective future.”
Iana, an international student studying Design & Graphic Technology, is set to graduate in May 2024. Throughout her time at NWTC, she has demonstrated exceptional dedication to her studies and co-curricular activities. Alongside her academic pursuits, Iana actively contributes to the Student Involvement & International Programs office, showcasing her commitment to campus engagement and community involvement.
Iana won gold and silver for her submissions in the 2024 American Advertising Awards-Fox River, and also participated in the 2023 nationals. She will also be a speaker at NWTC’s 2024 spring commencement ceremony.
“As a student ambassador, one of the most rewarding aspects has been connecting with peers from other colleges and being inspired by their journeys and achievements. My own story is a testament to the endless opportunities higher education provides, as I continue toward my dream of illustrating for New Yorker magazine, and other globally renowned companies. Embracing NWTC has truly transformed my life, which I believe is also possible for all,” says Iana.
The District Student Ambassador must be nominated by faculty or staff and complete an application. Students are then selected to participate in an interview process when they deliver a presentation on their personal journey and decision to attend a technical college.
Megan Grant, Manager of Student Involvement & International Programs, nominated Iana. She says “The student ambassador serves as a platform for students, like Iana, to share their unique journey and invaluable perspective. Providing students this leadership opportunity enhances their personal growth and also enriches the landscape of technical education. I have full confidence that Iana will continue to inspire others and to make positive impacts both in her life and career.”
The WTCS District Ambassador program is sponsored by Baird, a global, employee-owned, Milwaukee-based financial services firm.
