Course Description
10-606-152 DESIGN FOR VARIOUS MANUFACTURING METHODS ...hands on lab approach to designing parts in SolidWorks and detailing them for manufacturing. Costs of each manufacturing method, the end results (properties), and selecting the best method for a part based on the project criteria will be determined. (Prerequisite: 10-614-236, Intro to Rapid Prototype; 10-606-129, Assembly Design)

- Describe best practices for designing products for efficient manufacturing.
- Understand traditional manufacturing methods (Subtractive manufacturing methods like milling, boring, lathe, wire EDM, CNC. Also welding, bending sheet metal, casting, injection molding).
- Review additive manufacturing methods (AM)
- Estimate cost associated with each manufacturing method (Traditional and Additive)
- Distinguish differences in 3D models and detail prints for each manufacturing method
- Justify your design decision
