Course Description

10-531-110 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE (EMS) PROVIDER...EMS Provider comprises both the classroom component, including lecture in the core content of the curriculum and hands-on breakout sessions for developing practical skills in the treatment of patients in emergency scenarios; and clinical experience, for achieving competencies in patient assessment and EMS practical skills application. The aforementioned training processes will prepare the student for EMS licensure in the state of Wisconsin for the purpose of providing out-of-hospital patient care onboard fire-based, private or public/volunteer ambulance services.

What will I learn?

  1. Develop psychomotor skills for emergency medical services
  2. Cultivate pattern recognition based on EMS protocols developed by the federal DOT NHTSA and National EMS Guidelines compliant with the Wisconsin-approved EMS curriculum
  3. Demonstrate competency in a minimum of various skills in the EMS topic areas of (1) patient assessment, (2) airway management, (3) medical emergencies, (4) trauma emergencies and (5) EMS packaging and transport
  4. Apply the preparatory aspects emergency medical care
  5. Utilize a process of clinical decision-making when forming a field impression
