Course Description
10-504-206 EMERGENCY VEHICLE STRATEGIES ...students will have the opportunity to learn the legal basis and limitations on the use of non-emergency and emergency driving, demonstrate basic patrol operation, emergency vehicle response, and pursuit driving, determine the appropriate type of contact, and conduct approach, non-approach and high-risk vehicle contacts in simulated situations. (Prerequisite: 10-504-203 Fundamentals of Patrol; Corequisites: all 10-504-XXX courses in the current semester)

What will I learn?
- II-F-I Inspect the vehicle and place a patrol vehicle into service at the beginning of a shift.
- II-F-2 Apply proper driving strategies and techniques for basic patrol operation of a vehicle
- II-F-3 Describe the legal and policy considerations surrounding law enforcement driving, including normal patrol operation, emergency response, and pursuit driving.
- II-F-4 Describe safety factors and vehicle dynamics involved in emergency driving, and apply proper emergency driving techniques.
- II-F-5 Identify the legal, policy, and safety considerations in initiating, conducting, and terminating pursuits, including options to stop subject vehicles.
- II-U-1 Identify the legal basis for conducting and limits to a search of the vehicle.
- II-U-2 Conduct an appropriate threat assessment prior to and during a vehicle contact.
- II-U-3 Demonstrate the proper procedures for making a high-risk vehicle contact.
- II-U-4 Conduct vehicle contacts on specialized vehicles (motorcycles, commercial motor vehicles, etc.).
