Who, What, Where?
Who
Door County Learning in Retirement (DCLIR) is a non-profit membership organization, established and sponsored in partnership with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), Sturgeon Bay Campus. Retired and semi-retired people who desire to explore new and exciting ideas, as well as enjoy being with others to share experiences, knowledge and wisdom.
What
The Lifelong Learning programs throughout the country are established, planned, and maintained by volunteers. We choose topics of interest to our members and expect that the members assist in the planning and execution of the programs. As a result of revised By Laws, the former Steering Committee is now referred to as the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is comprised of the elected president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and up to three elected members at large, as well as the Past President, NWTC's Sturgeon Bay Campus Manager and at least one of the DCLIR office assistant. The Steering Committee now consists of the non-elected chairs of the Curriculum, Finance, Social and Volunteer Committees.
Where
DCLIR classes are located at NWTC - Sturgeon Bay Campus at 229 N. 14th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay. Phone (920) 746-4947. We are fortunate to have been provided office space and phone by NWTC. The DCLIR office, Room SC111, is open Monday-Thursday, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. Our e-mail address is: dclir@nwtc.edu.
When
DCLIR offers a year of programming for the $70 annual membership fee. The year begins September 1 and ends August 31. This includes the Fall and Spring semesters of programming. If you join in December, the Spring semester membership fee is $50. There is no limit to the number of courses/activities in which you may participate.
Why
DCLIR is dedicated to facilitating quality lifelong learning in an open, ongoing forum for older adults in Northeastern Wisconsin. The demographics of our geographical area indicate that we have a population that would value and support such a program. This seems to be the case, as we were newly established in 2005 and are proud to have 135 charter members.
